Saw a kid the other day in the market and was captivated by her innocent beauty...A song dedicated to my 'chellam' :
From the dark enclosures of the womb, a child is born to the light...she cries seeing it... unaware of life ahead...as she grows she continues to wonder often confused of this brightness...slowly she learns to live in it and at the end becomes one with it...this my travelogue on this journey towards Light...to search and find who, what 'I AM'

With the onslaught of Winter, my mood swings are pretty high.....this poem is written on a day when I was feeling really low...so didn't bother translating it :(

@ Rewriting the past @
Years back when for once the CBSE syllabus was revised to improve more focus on comprehension and grammar, I think when I was in my 8th standard, I got this really wonderful person,Mrs.Bhanumathy as my English teacher. With a new and exciting textbook to learn and a willing teacher to help us out, we had a thoroughly enjoyable time reading and learning English by means of exercises in Reading Comprehension and lots of debates and group discussions.
I cherish those years of my school which helped shaping my language skills. This post is dedicated to her. It is rewritten from one of the class assignments she had given years ago.Having Shakespeare's poem "All the World's a Stage" as reference, I had tried to explain the various stages Water goes through from being ice on snow-capped mountains to meeting its final destination, the Sea.
You join the mighty ocean,
I cherish those years of my school which helped shaping my language skills. This post is dedicated to her. It is rewritten from one of the class assignments she had given years ago.Having Shakespeare's poem "All the World's a Stage" as reference, I had tried to explain the various stages Water goes through from being ice on snow-capped mountains to meeting its final destination, the Sea.
Like a child in mother's womb,
You were formed in mountain's bosom
Kissed by the morning sunshine,
You trickled as a silvery blossom
You took your first baby steps,
Not sure where to go
You tumbled down the rocky hill,
Along the paths you still didn't know
And sliding down the valleys,
You cried in a tinkling voice;
For the home you left behind,
To follow the roads of your choice
Brimming with boyish mischief,
You march down to your school
Gathering friendly rivulets,
To seize the plains and rule
At youth you are strong and lively,
Playing a thunderous score
Making the fields fertile,
Letting them dry no more...
Out of love for the lands you conquered,
You pamper them with your gifts,
Of Flowers and gardens and meadows,
Of Rainbows and swallows and swifts
Now that you have your love,
You're not as you used to be
You let go of your vigor,
To become an estuary
You proceed in a solemn way,
As you are growing old
No more afraid of facing the day,
When you would reach your final goal
Caressing the trees and reeds,
Which are growing on your shores
And slowing down your pace,
Towards the end of your course
Who welcomes you with her waves
To get lost in her magnificence,
Leaving behind no trace
The vapours rising above now,
Form clouds of the future rain,
Which will fill the bowls of mountains,
To become a river once again!
To break the rules of Poetry, thats what I would like to call this poem of mine......all the while I try to put down a beautiful thought I get stuck in making the lines rhyme, in trying to find the words that best suit the flow and sometimes end up writing a seemingly nice poem void of the initial thought for which it was written. Today, I have tried my best to write down what I feel than worrying about whether it rhymes or not.
In this poem, I pen down my memories about the loss of a childhood friend...
For my non-Tamil readers I am yet again translating this:)
THE DEATH OF A BUTTERFLY
THE DEATH OF A BUTTERFLY
When you flew around with your vibrant colors,
I never for once thought of catching you,
Just when you came and sat on my shoulder,
I turned and looked at you.
When you fluttered your beautiful wings,
I felt as if a flower which has but no fragrance,
Has bloomed on my shoulders..
Has bloomed on my shoulders..
And when others tried to touch you,
I feared even the very thought might hurt you.
When those around wanted to befriend you,
I was surprised that you chose to be with me.
Because I thought that you too would leave me,
Because I thought that you too would leave me,
I tried not to get caught in your love...
Though my pride says that I was not caught,
You have been in my heart,
You have been in my heart,
As my childhood friend.
Now that you have gone
I feel the heaviness of the moment when you came into my heart
You have gone towards the heaven,
Away from the greedy hands which tried to enslave you
I keep thinking that you'll come back,
To free myself of the void left by you
Though I know the fact that you are never gonna come,
The truth that you suffer no more
Brings solace to my heart!
You have gone towards the heaven,
Away from the greedy hands which tried to enslave you
I keep thinking that you'll come back,
To free myself of the void left by you
Though I know the fact that you are never gonna come,
The truth that you suffer no more
Brings solace to my heart!

On a Rainy day
Given the fact I like the rain so much, I was surprised at myself that I haven't written about it in my blog yet. So here's a song dedicated to THE RAIN:
At last the school bell rings,
To end a hot 'n' sunny day
I start my bicycle home,
Alone as well today!
The clouds hovering over,
Murmur about a storm
I look upto see their gathering,
In the sky that's no more calm
The breeze has turned to gusts
Of wind that seem to play
With the leaves on the trees,
That toss 'n' turn 'n' sway
I watch the clouds above me,
Looking all gloomy and gray
Oh! the rain drops falling,
Tell that, they're on the way
I ride along excited,
Looking up, now and again
Rain drops fall on my face,
Ask me, not to hasten in vain
So, I cycle slowly,
Making sure I dip the wheels
On every pool 'n' puddle,
That splatters to says it yields
Someone asks me, on the way
"Forgot ur umbrella dear"?
The pity in her voice
Makes me smile at her fear
I might catch a cold
or fever, but that's not bad,
I pity her more, thinking
She missed what I had
Came home, drenched and tired,
Smiling all the time :)
Thank God no one's at home
I can surely hide the crime ;)
God's love is like the rain,
Showering on everything
But People whine and worry,
Without understanding him!
At last the school bell rings,
To end a hot 'n' sunny day
I start my bicycle home,
Alone as well today!

I love Hyderabad!!!
After a 12-hour journey starting on Friday by train from Bangalore to Kachiguda a group of 6 friends reached Hyderabad. As my friend's wedding was on Sunday, we were planning to visit Golconda fort for the evening light show on Saturday. After spending the morning in freshening up, we went to meet the bride's family. We started from their house around 2.30 after a yummy Andhra-style vegetarian lunch. Following an hour and half drive by cab from Dilsukh Nagar we reached Golconda.
At first look, the fort looked like a miniature stone castle out of a fairy tale. Though disappointed, we hired a guide to look around the fort. The fort was situated inside a stony wall of 7 km span. The trip covered 3 km of fort area lasting 1 hour 40 minutes. We went uphill through commons path to the highest point of Darbar hall, 500 odd feet high from the entrance and came downhill through "Shahi raah" aka the king's way.
The Golconda fort is a distinguishing example of stone architecture and sound engineering of the bygone era. The first example was the entrance of the fort. The entrance was hidden by a large stone wall, and above the entrance was a dome shaped structure with diamond-shaped edges inside. This diamond-cut caused sound to be reflected in such a way that if a sentry claps from here with a unique code suggesting the arrival of the friend or foe, the claps were resounded at the Darbar hall 500-feet high!
We confirmed this ourselves when we reached the top. Then on the way uphill, we saw the soldiers barracks, nagina bagh- the place Persian businessmen traded diamond and other stone jewellery with the begums of the fort, the minister's office, the three stone tanks which supplied water to the fort. It was surprising to hear that water was pumped to the lowest tank from the Durgamcheru lake situated some 10kms away.In those days, soldiers who were to be punished were sent to pump waters to the tanks. Pretty tiresome job!
After visiting Ramdas jail, and listening to his story briefly, we reached the highest point, the Darbar hall. An interesting piece of architecture was the natural airconditioner situated on the sides of the King's throne. The air conditioner was nothing but a tunnel leading from the back of the fort to the hall. At the back it was narrow, so that the wind entering in is forced to travel in a shorter path through the lime-coated walls of the tunnel which cools it and at the outlet near the throne, it comes out as a cold breeze :) Simple and cool eh??
Another interesting aspect was yet another dome-shaped structure at the Darbar. When the sentry at the entrance warns the courtiers of a incoming threat, the King's claps from under this very dome, which in turn echoes the same to the 7 sentry gates located throughout the fort walls of 7km. Hearing the claps, the sentries at these gates close their gates to prevent enemy's intrusion.
After clicking a few snaps at the top, we came down the "Shahi raah". There were close 370 odd steps to the bottom. The whole flight was steep and slippery. The guide explained that these steps were built purposefully short so that enemies can't run on foot or on horseback swiftly on them. The King and his begums used to be carried in Palanquin. The Palanquin bearers were sturdy men who were selected based on their height to be either at the front of back of the Palanquin. Uphill, the shorter men used be in front and taller ones at the back so the Palanquin is held straight without tilting. At the junctions, the bearers were switched with men of appropriate height for the next flight of steps.
Our last stop before coming back to the entrance was the hall were hearing were held. The hall had a opening on the top were the King and Queen used to sit. An arch in front of the throne prevented people standing below to see the king and queen. The guide explained that trials of criminals were held here and such an arrangement to hide the royal couple was done to prevent any retribution by the convicted after hearing the penalty. The convict was supposed to stand below a dome-shaped structure which had a finer-diamond shaped cut walls in the interior. This caused even a slightest ruffle of the cloth to be echoed loudly thus warning the guards if the convict tries to attack anyone. We ruffled our dresses, tried cooing and confirmed that indeed it resounded :)
Also, there was a place in the king's palace where the words spoken in one corner of the walls was echoed on the diagonally-opposite corner. This was to avoid any kind of gossip or spies whispering about. Scary na?? I sure won't allow this facility in my office cubicle ;)
After the trip we attended the light show. The narration was cool as someone imitated the voice of an emperor who takes the visitors on stroll and explains them the history of the palace and its kings. The lighting was also good with songs and dialogues to match. But the show was an hour long which seemed to get draggy after initial 30 minutes due to the regular interruption in narration by a song or dialogue! But hey come on, we are used to watching 3-hour long movies in India with all its masaala and songs, so this wasn't so hard :P
Coming back we stopped in Mozamjahi market for having dinner at "Famous Ice creams" :D Yep each of us had at least two varieties of ice cream which served as our dinner for the day! And thus ended yet another memorable trip around Hyderabad....
Useful info: Based on my experience in last three successful trips to Hyderabad here is the list of Famous eatouts in Hyderabad where I tried and enjoyed the food and flavour of Andhra, the chicken curry, fry and egg at Southern spice(near Durgamcheru), Paradise hotel (Secunderabhad) biriyani and mughalai mutton curry, Chicken biriyani in Hyderabad house(there are lot of branches, I tried the one near Malakpet), Jain restaurant in Ramoji Film city, the lunch buffet was awesome with its variety of vegetarian food. HTH for any foodies going on a trip to Hyd!

Cup of VicTorY!!!
Yesterday night at PG. Its over midnight, and one can see two images coming from the terrace room. Hurried steps down the stairs, walking fast but making sure that they do not make any noise and raise the inmates. They move stealthily towards the kitchen, scan the interior of the fridge and store room. Wait, some noise from the hall, they pause for while. Minutes pass by and they ensure that they hear the snoring of the warden.
Quickly, they set out on what they wanted to do. Sans the noise, sans the giggle, one even closes mouth when about to cough. Ten minutes sharp...mission accomplished. Still there is a risk, they might run into someone on their way back to terrace. They cover their tracks, remove the traces and start back to the terrace. They walk hesitantly but thank God, nobody around. Up there, they switch off the terrace lights, so as to hide their movements from some inquisitive paranoid who might be roaming around in the neighboring coz he couldn't get sleep.
They now climb on the parapet wall and smile at each other victoriously. One can see that they are still in the mood of the mission, since they are whispering to each other though they are far away from the eyes of the warden. There is a mischievous grin in their voices. Up in the terrace, against the moonlight with their legs hanging, cradled by the gentle breeze, they give a hi-fi to celebrate their victory! Never in their life they have tasted victory so high! Never in life a Tea tasted better than this!

P.S. There are lot of differences in the way a family treats a girl and how her friends treat her.In friends too, there are significant differences between boys and girls. In boys too there are subtle differences between married and unmarried guys. And in married guys too, there are some who take you by surprise. This poem follows a conversation with one of my friends who got married a couple of years back. Rarely, do I share my views with him and when I did so,this is what I got to hear :(

Is it Fair??
Q:Is it fair...
To wake a peaceful dream,
To muddle a crystal stream,
To crush a lil' child's hope,
To let go off the end of rope
A:No, never!
Q:Is it fair...
To lie there, where you fell,
To blame someone as well,
To keep urself off the guilt,
To burn the bridges someone built
To wake a peaceful dream,
To muddle a crystal stream,
To crush a lil' child's hope,
To let go off the end of rope
A:No, never!
Q:Is it fair...
To lie there, where you fell,
To blame someone as well,
To keep urself off the guilt,
To burn the bridges someone built
A: Get up and put off the fire...
Is it fair...
To get rid of the worst,
To stand 'n' shake off the dust,
To see the child within,
To dream 'n' hope again..
A: Yes, yes that's my desire

Anger Management!
For the first time in my life, I tried something at work to control my anger and it seems to be working. In past, I have tried to brush off the feeling of yelling at someone, by just smiling and moving out of the place of conversation immediately (especially long meetings with no immediate or futuristic focus). But that doesn't seem to help me in cases where I'm not able to leave the conversation as soon as I start losing temper or the other person goes on probing me to respond. So, this time I tried something different, thanks to the frequent dose of advice from my near and dear ones. I sat down to think and sought the other person's perspective.
In this particular instance, I called the annoying co-worker and asked him to suggest a better way of doing things than what I'm doing right now. Believe me! its hard to control one's anger but its harder to let go of one's ego. I did well, considering it was my first attempt :) He listened to me for a while, after the usual show-offs he said he'll think about it and get back to me.I thought its just another little excuse, because he wouldn't have expected me to seek inputs from him and was trying to play safe.
After two days he came back and trust me the work he had done on the particular subject was worth appreciation and he gave some valuable inputs for improvement. Now I'm not gonna say that it ended as a fairy tale where "we became friends and worked next to each other happily ever-after", but I could see that his feedback on the subject was really a sincere one and I'm sure I would have regretted if I had missed the things pointed out by him.
Now that "Anger management" is really something which I'm working on currently, any help, your own experiences or a practical approach to control one's temperament are most welcome!
"It takes 43 muscles to frown and only 17 to smile, but it doesn't take even a single one to just sit there and look dumb ;)"

Transliteration..huh?
I am seriously thinking of creating a separate blog for writing in Tamil :) What say?? Many(!) of the readers of my blog are non-Tamils and are expressing concern (?!!) when I post something in Tamil which they can't read :) A happy thought is that there are people out there who follow my blog and are willing to spend time on reading what I babble :D So here is the translated post in English of the Original post in Tamil!
An Evening by the Seashore...
I wanted to have some change over the weekend, so asked my sister whether she would like to go to the beach. She spontaneously said "Yes". I then asked my Mom, she too agreed. That was a surprise :)
We started for the beach around 3. The journey from Avadi to Marina beach is about one hour. As we got down from the bus, the sea breeze came and embraced us like a long lost friend. Enraptured by her love, we were drawn towards the seashore. The Sun, too seemed to be smiling. After a walking for a while, we stopped at a place where there were not many playing. I and my Sister go ready to play in the water. I was expecting that my Mom would take our bags and sit in the shore. But she gave us a sweet surprise saying that she too wanted to play!
My Mom is very timid by nature. When she was a young girl, she was too afraid to cross the canal beside her house in her hometown. But God knows what happened to her today, she wants to play...
While playing, initally there were small waves which came like shy kittens touching just our feet and then running back. After sometime, as though they have gained courage seeing friendly faces, they endeavoured to climb to our laps. My sister who got worried about getting completely drenched wanted to go back. But before I could refuse, my Mom replied to her.
Mom wanted to go further into the waves it seems. So me and my sister caught hold of her arms on either sides and she dipped herself into the next big wave that came by. Guess she must have lost her years in those waters, she was giggling like a small girl :) And tried the same over and over again...
Just a while ago, when we were walking on the beach, I saw some people playing with their kids on the waves. I just wished that how nice it would have been if I had a kid to play with. If wishes are truly selfless and pure, God grants them instantly i guess. Thats why he made my Mom a kid for the day in our arms!

Laws of Nature :D

Law of nature(atleast my nature): Unless we lose something we never try out anything new :D. Few months back I had dropped my mobile from table and it crash landed on floor. From then on, it did not used to detect the memory card. So, I was not able to transfer photos taken from my mobile to my PC. After taking a snap of my Glass painting I really wanted to blog about it. I tried to publish blog from Mobile. My Sony Ericsson K770i has the option to click photos, create a mobile blog and post immediately. A couple of more steps and one can redirect the posts to their own blogs :).
Had the options always at hand but tried it only now!
My first glass painting

Tried my hands on glass painting last week. Well actually speaking bought a Faber-Castle Glass painting kit and filled the colours. The first time, the colour combination didn't come out well. But, thank God its washable paint :). Tried again and this time it was good!
Checkout the next post for a clearer pic, hopefully ;)
